An NFL player's injury status can have a significant effect on both real-life and fantasy football. Maybe most importantly at this time of year — at least for some — is that injuries heavily influence fantasy football rankings and start/sit decisions.

  • Bengals RB Chris Evans suffered a knee injury during the opening kickoff. He played one more offensive play and then was ruled out for the rest of the game. The specific injury is unclear, and he will undergo further evaluation on Monday.

GREEN BAY PACKERS @ DETROIT LIONS

  • Packers RB Aaron Jones injured his ankle in the third quarter. He was seen after the game in a walking boot, but I believe this to be precautionary. From what I saw, it is likely he suffered a low-ankle sprain. His return to play is typically one-to-three weeks.
  • WR Romeo Doubs suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter. He was seen leaving the locker room on crutches with a walking boot. I am concerned he suffered a high-ankle sprain — the average return to play is four-to-six weeks.
  • LB Rashan Gary was carted off in the third quarter after sustaining a knee injury. It was a non-contact injury, so I am worried he tore his ACL, which would end his season.
  • Lions RB Craig Reynolds suffered a rib injury in the first half and did not return. If he suffered torn rib cartilage, he could miss two to four weeks.

BUFFALO BILLS @ NEW YORK JETS

  • Bills QB Josh Allen injured his elbow at the end of the game. I believe he suffered an elbow sprain and maybe ulnar nerve damage, as you saw him shaking his arm a bunch. I am optimistic nothing major is wrong after seeing him throw a deep ball with no issue after the injury.
